What is a donated dining table worth?
What decides the number here is not the table. It is how much of the dining room went with it.
- Typical value, good condition
- $90
- Published range, good condition
- $65 to $110
What a donated dining table is generally worth
Fair market value is a range, so these are ranges. The suggested figure sits inside the band the source guide published for that condition.
| Item | Like new | Good | Fair | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dining Table (table only) | $110 to $150 | $65 to $110 | $20 to $65 | Source 1 for Dining Table (table only) |
| Kitchen or Dinette Set (table and chairs) | $105 to $135 | $70 to $105 | $36 to $70 | Source 2 for Kitchen or Dinette Set (table and chairs) |
| Dining Room Set (complete) | $700 to $935 | $430 to $700 | $155 to $430 | Source 2 for Dining Room Set (complete) |
| Buffet or Sideboard | $170 to $225 | $110 to $170 | $45 to $110 | Source 5 for Buffet or Sideboard |
Values are per item, in 2026 dollars, from the DeductiBee valuation dataset, edition 2026.1. A range is what the source guide published; the suggested figure is the point inside it we prefill, not a price.
How this range was derived
Published: Catholic Charities "Table (indoor)" $20-$150. L*=$20 H*=$150 by lower median; tiers split at 35%/70% of span per CITATIONS.md 3.4. [lowConfidence: no primary source at this granularity, corroborating fallback]
- Like new
- Unworn or barely used, with tags or as good as. The top of the published range.
- Good
- Used, complete, clean, and working, with no notable damage. The middle of the range.
- Fair
- Visible wear but still usable and saleable. The bottom of the range, and generally the lowest condition that can be claimed at all.
What drives the value of a donated dining table
The tier you pick is the biggest lever on this page. Here is what actually decides it.
This page has the widest spread of any furniture item in the dataset, and it is entirely about completeness. A table on its own is one row. A kitchen or dinette set, meaning the table with its chairs, is another. A complete dining room set, table, chairs, and the case pieces that match, is published far above both and is one of the largest single figures in the whole valuation guide. Count what actually left the house before picking a row, because the difference between these lines dwarfs the difference between condition tiers.
On the table itself, the leaves are the thing people forget. A table sold with two extension leaves and donated with none is incomplete, and an extending table missing its leaves cannot be opened, which a buyer will notice immediately. The same goes for the bolts and brackets that attach a pedestal or trestle base: send them taped to the underside rather than leaving them in a kitchen drawer.
Surface condition sits inside the band rather than moving the row. Heat rings, water marks, and a hazed finish are ordinary on a used dining table and describe the middle tier. A veneer that has lifted or bubbled is different, because veneer cannot be sanded back, and a top with a lifted edge generally sits at the bottom of the range. Wobble is worth checking too: press one corner, and if the apron joints move, the table needs work.
What evidence supports the condition you claimed
A number you can trace and defend is worth more in an audit than a generous one you cannot.
Photograph the table from above so the whole top is in one frame, then at eye level to show the base and leg joints, then with the leaves in place if it has them. If chairs are going with it, get all of them in one photograph beside the table, since that single frame is what supports the set row rather than the table row. For a complete dining room set, photograph the case pieces in the same session and log them as the set the sources describe.
Items people log as a dining table by mistake
Filing an item under the wrong line is the quietest way to end up with a number you cannot support.
A dinette or kitchen set
Table plus chairs is its own published row. Donating a table and four chairs and logging only the table understates it; logging a bare table as a set overstates it by the same logic.
Dining chairs on their own
Individual dining chairs are priced per chair on the chair line, which is a small figure. Six chairs without their table belong there, not on any of the table rows.
A buffet or sideboard
The serving cabinet has its own row above the plain table. Donated alongside a table, it is a second item unless the whole thing is genuinely being logged as a complete dining room set.
Up, sideways, and out
Every value on this page comes out of the furniture section of the donation value guide, which shows the rest of the category with the same sourcing.

Where these values come from
Every range on this page traces to one of these. Values are derived from the published ranges, never copied from another product’s valuation database, and never invented where no source covers an item.

A value is evidence, not a ruling. Deductibility depends on your own facts, including whether the organization is qualified and what records you kept. This is record-keeping software, not tax advice.
A dining table is rarely the only thing in the car.
DeductiBee carries this same dataset on your iPhone, so the rest of the load gets valued and photographed at the drop-off instead of reconstructed in April.
Same numbers, offline
Edition 2026.1 ships inside the app, so a value never depends on a server being up in January.
