Donation value calculator

Add up what you gave, item by item, from 1,172 donatable goods valued against published thrift-store guides. Every line shows the source behind its number, and the whole calculation runs in your browser.

Search 1,172 items, or pick a category to browse it.

Your donation

Nothing added yet. Search above and add each item you gave, with the condition it was in. Nothing you type here is uploaded, saved, or sent anywhere.

How it works

Four steps to a total you can defend

The point is not the number. The point is that you can show where the number came from.

  1. 1

    Find each item you gave

Search the catalog by plain name, or filter to a category and browse it. The catalog is the same one the DeductiBee iPhone app uses.

  2. 2

Pick the condition it was in

Like new, Good, or Fair. Each tier maps to a band inside the range the source guide published, so the value moves with the condition you choose.

  3. 3

    Set a quantity

Eight dinner plates is eight items, not one. The total is the sum of per-item fair market values, which is how a deduction is actually computed.

  4. 4

    Read the documented total

You get a suggested figure and the supported range behind it, plus a note when the total crosses the thresholds that generally trigger Form 8283 or an appraisal.

Like new
Unworn or barely used, with tags or as good as. The top of the published range.
Good
Used, complete, clean, and working, with no notable damage. The middle of the range.
Fair
Visible wear but still usable and saleable. The bottom of the range, and generally the lowest condition that can be claimed at all.
What it does not do

The honest limits of a calculator

A tool that overstates what it can do is worth less than one that says where it stops.

  • It does not know your facts. Whether a contribution is deductible depends on the organization being qualified, on what you actually gave, and on the records you kept. A total here is evidence, not a conclusion.
  • It does not remember anything. There is no account and no server, so the list disappears when you close the tab. Download the CSV if you need it to survive.
  • It does not produce Form 8283. The app exports a worksheet laid out like Section A, plus CSV and TXF for tax software. Neither the site nor the app produces the fileable federal form itself. What the form asks for.

The calculator searches the catalog. The guide shows all of it, with the derivation and the source list for each range.

Start at the donation value guide for how these numbers are derived, read the Form 8283 walkthrough if your total is heading past $500, or the receipts guide for what to collect at the counter. The glossary defines the vocabulary all three use.

FAQ

Questions about the calculator

Is this donation calculator free?
Yes, and it works without an account, a sign-up, or an email address. Nothing you enter is uploaded: the whole calculation happens in your browser, and closing the tab discards it.
How does the calculator decide what an item is worth?
Every value comes from the same dataset the DeductiBee app carries: ranges published by organizations that resell donated goods, split into three condition tiers and cited on each line. It is edition 2026.1, built from 20 published value sources.
Why does the total show a range?
Because fair market value is a range, and the tier bands published by the source guides are ranges too. The suggested figure sits inside the supported range, and knowing the width of that range is what tells you how much room you have to defend a number.
What if an item has no value?
Some items carry no published range, because no guide in our source registry prices them. You can still add them and enter your own figure, which stays marked as yours in the total and in the CSV. The category guide for that item explains what evidence supports it.
Does this file my deduction?
No. It produces a documented total and a CSV. Deductions above $500 for the year generally require Form 8283 with your return, which our guide walks through, and the Instructions for Form 8283 set out when a qualified appraisal is required. You also need the right receipts from the charity, which is a separate rule with its own deadline. This is record-keeping, not tax advice.
Can I save my list?
Not here, on purpose: there is nowhere to save it to, because there is no account and no server. Download the CSV, or use the DeductiBee app, which keeps donations on your iPhone with photo evidence and exports a Form 8283 worksheet at filing time.

The app keeps the total for you.

DeductiBee carries the same dataset on your iPhone, logs a drop-off in seconds, keeps photo evidence with each item, and exports a Form 8283 worksheet at filing time.

Same numbers, offline

The valuation dataset ships inside the app, so it works with no connection and no account.
